Hydrographic Stations in the Bering Sea
-Hydrographic stations-
 Observations what we did are as follows,
  • Conductivity, Temperature, Depth (CTD)
  • Water sampling for measurement of chlorophyll-a concentration and macro nutrients (Nitrate, Nitrite, Silicate, Phosphate)
  • Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP)
Other group of the Hokkaido University did the measurement of iron concentration, bottom trawl and net sampling for zoo-/phytoplankton.

Monitoring of marine ecosystem in the Eastern Bering Sea Shelf
Recently the mass of cold bottom water has decreased.
And the Oshoro-maru dataset revealed temprature of the "cold bottom water", which is generated during ice freezing period, has increased (3-4oC) since 2002.
But we could identify the cold bottom water over the middle shelf and the inner shelf (Left figure, less than 1~2oC).
our result in this year suggests that ice production increased during previous winter.

The Observation of Boundary Currents (the BSC and ANSC)
We observed the Bering Slope CUrrent (BSC) and Aleutian North Slope Current (ANSC) using the ADCP and CTD (Upper figure, station 151 - 164). We can estimate the transports of ANSC, BSC and on-shelf flow at the shelf break.
